LIGHTS ON WOMEN AWARD, OUR NEW INITIATIVE FOR RISING FEMALE SHORT FILM MAKERS
This year, the Festival de Cannes will be a momentous occasion for L’Oréal Paris to go even further in its commitment to women. In partnership with the Short Films competition and the international film schools program, we are proud to launch the Lights on Woman Award, which will recognize a rising female talent and empower her to overcome barriers and help transform the film industry of tomorrow. The final choice will be announced on July 16 by Kate Winslet, the perfect embodiment of the talented, self-confident woman who assumes her beauty without artifice nor photoshop touch-ups. The winner of the inaugural Lights on Women Award will receive financial support of 30,000€. This unique recognition will also offer the winner a platform for increased visibility and will also gain access to a “sisterhood” of cinematic talent.
"L’Oréal Paris is a feminine and feminist brand. We believe in empowering women to overcome barriers and to have a long-term positive social impact within their communities.”
Delphine Viguier-Hovasse, Global Brand President, L’Oréal Paris.
30 MAKEUP ARTISTS ON-SITE CREATING 300 MAKEUP LOOKS
From the opening to the closing ceremony, and every day in between, L’Oréal Paris makeup artists create the beauty looks of festival jury members, as well as our ambassadors. Led by L’Oréal Paris creative genius Val Garland, a team of 30-plus international makeup artists design some 300 makeup. This year, the festival will take place for the first time in the heart of summer. An additional challenge for our make-up artists who will have to sublimate the guests under the relentless light and in the heat of the Mediterranean coast.
DIVERSITY ON THE RED CARPET
For la montée des marches, as the Cannes red carpet leading up to the Palais des Festivals is known, a league of exceptional women of all origins steps up for L’Oréal Paris. From across continents and cultures, our actress icons plus ambassadors from the worlds of music, fashion and activism, unite to represent the beauty of diversity on this world stage. Eleven of our spokespeople from all the world, including Helen Mirren, Leila Bekhti, Andie MacDowell, Gemma Chan will be present.
For L’Oréal Paris, there is no one form of beauty, and Cannes becomes a living expression of our modern beauty vision. Our deep belief in the richness of diversity will have a special resonance this year as the jury will be chaired by activist director Spike Lee, the first African-American to hold this position.
RED CARPET BEAUTY FOR EVERYONE
With our makeup maverick Val Garland and hair guru Stéphane Lancien revealing the step-by-step of their red carpet looks, showstopping beauty can be instantly recreated. In the power of a bold red lip, thanks to Color Riche, or a sweeping regard, with Volume Million Lashes, L’Oréal Paris plays its role in enabling women to communicate the message they want to the world. Because “All women are worth it”.
IN CANNES, CULTURE IS CELEBRATED WITHOUT FORGETTING NATURE
To begin the third decade of the 21st century, the Cannes Film Festival is committed to responsibility and action in favor of the environment. Hybrid vehicles, drastic reduction of paper printouts, total elimination of plastic water bottles, recycling, waste management, responsible catering, carbon footprint compensation... The measures taken by the Cannes Film Festival are in line with the action led by l'Oréal Paris to pass on a more beautiful world to future generations.
