What is the difference between men and women skin?
The characteristics of male skin are conditioned by the production of a hormone: testosterone. Men's skin is about 20-25% thicker than women's and has a tougher texture. It contains more collagen, which makes the skin look firmer, tighter, and more resistant to aging. Men's skin produces 2X more sebum than women's skin. Therefore, men are more prone to acne and less prone to dry skin. Moreover, daily shaving causes irritations, cuts, and razor burn. Beyond all these differences, men's and women's skin face the same problems: sensitivity, aging, exposure to stress, UV and other external aggressors.
Why using men products for men skin?
No, men's skin care is not a marketing invention! Male skin is different from women's (see previous question). Thicker, it needs heavy-hitting products that can penetrate the skin to do their job. Richer in collagen and protected by hair, it ages more slowly than women's skin, but daily shaving can irritate it and the hair follicles can become infected in the event of ingrown hairs. It is therefore essential to pamper the skin with quality shaving products. Are L’Oréal Paris Men Expert products tested on animals?
Since 1989, L’Oréal no longer tests any of its products or any of its ingredient on animals, anywhere in the world. Nor does L’Oréal delegate this task to others. L'Oréal was the first brand, more than 40 years ago, to develop a synthetic human skin that allows the evaluation of different ingredients and products. This innovative technology has been made available to governments, organizations, and other companies to eliminate the need for animal testing. Other techniques, such as imaging, molecular modeling, artificial intelligence, and toxicology expert systems are used to evaluate the performance of our formulas.
What’s the difference between a moisturizer and a serum?
Serums are lightweight formulations based on targeted active ingredients that penetrate deeply into the skin while moisturizers are thicker formula that remains on skin’s surface to create a physical barrier that lock in moisture. Both can be enriched in specific active ingredients to tackle one or several concerns (anti-aging, acne, dark spots…). It is recommended to use both every day, applying the serum first and then the moisturizer.
What are the basic skincare rules to follow?
Nothing too complicated!
1. Gently cleanse your skin, in the morning and right before bed, with a cleanser and warm water.
2. If you shave, pick quality shaving products and shave in the direction of your hair growth.
3. Moisturize twice a day to restore the natural protective barrier of your skin.
4. Apply sunscreen once in the morning (and of course, every two hours if you expose yourself or practice sports in the sun).
