Prioritizing mental health
This year, the partnership is taking a new direction. A little less about the upper lip and more about encouraging men to speak out. We are facing an unprecedented crisis. 1 in 3 men experience a period of depression in their lives and the emotional stress of social isolation means that men are suffering more than ever. Movember and L’Oréal Men Expert are here to say that “It’s okay not to be okay” and encourage men to unbottle their feelings in a healthy way.
We need to empower men and give them tools to open up and talk about their feelings and have a chat. We need to spread the word that

Your online guide to support the Men in your life…
the Movember Conversations tool
L’Oréal Men Expert is proud to be promoting the new Movember Conversations tool, an online guide that gives you confidence to support men in your surroundings who might be depressed or feeling low, whether it is a friend, a colleague, or a family member. With three different simulations, users can experience being a confidant who is receiving messages from a man in need. Movember shows you what are the good practices using the ALEC 4-step method (Ask, Listen, Encourage action, Check in) so that you may feel confident having these important conversations in real life.
A laser focus on research with a purpose
With a grant of 280k euros invested into the world-first Men in Mind project from Movember, L’Oréal Men Expert encourages an academic research program with concrete outcomes and change-drivers.
Dr Zac Seidler, Research Fellow at Orygen Centre for Youth Mental Health at the University of Melbourne, and his team are studying the barriers to men receiving mental health treatment to create an online training program for therapists and counsellors. It will help them better engage and meet the needs of male clients, as there is currently a gap between what clinicians are able to offer and what men seeking counselling need.
Our campaign to fight against stigma : Have a chat. Support men.
Raising awareness around the subject isn’t easy. Men often avoid talking about it and disregard their symptoms because of an outdated conception of masculinity… that men should always be physically and mentally strong.
We want to challenge any of these preconceptions with our new campaign ‘Have a chat. Support men’. The campaign highlights good practices to support your friends with engaging and funny content. Check out Nikolaj’s best advice and be part of the 1,5M men talking about depression by 2022 here.
